PERISCOPE member receives International Investigators Award

Congratulations are in order: Hans de Graaf from the University of Southampton was honoured with the IDWeek 2018 International Investigators Award. He received the prize in recognition of excellence in his abstract submitted to IDWeek 2018: “A Bordetella pertussis Human Challenge Model Induces Immunizing Colonization in the Absence of Symptoms”.

The abstract focuses on the Pertussis Human Challenge Colonisation Study conducted at the University of Southampton within PERISCOPE. In this study, researchers are trying to find out how they can best protect people against the disease Whooping Cough and stop it spreading from person to person. The work was presented at the IDWeek 2018 taking place from October 3-7, 2018 in San Francisco, CA. The IDWeek is an annual scientific meeting where infectious diseases professionals can meet, share experiences, and develop collaborations.

The clinical study is part of the PERISCOPE project which makes the award a great achievement for the whole consortium.
